I have decided to do an alphabet drabble challenge for myself! I can't guarantee I will get to everything but I'd like to try.

Jukebox Fest 2023!

It's time again! This is one of my favourite exchanges of the year - thank you for creating something for me!

I am really excited for this fest, possibly more than is rational. I have a longstanding love of folk music and other forms of ballads and song-stories, and I like thinking about what we don't know as much as what we do. The canons we have to work with here are mostly pretty loose, and I'm excited to see where people go with them. I recognize that this is a lot closer to original work than most fandom-fests, and I appreciate that it can be harder to make things up whole cloth, so really, thank you! Write/Draw/Record what you want, what inspires you, and hopefully what is below has some good ideas if you're feeling lost!

I want to say first of all that if you have a strong idea about what you want to write, please feel free to run with it! I have tried to give some general ideas of things that I think might be cool for the fanworks, but for the most part I'm pretty open to interpretations. I'm okay with any rating, I don't have any real squicks or triggers. I like things that are scary and creepy and straight up horrific, but I also like things that are cute or funny or fluffy or sexy. I don't need happy endings in stories, but I do enjoy them. If you have different ideas though, lemme have 'em! I like character introspection, I like world building, I like plot. I like porn, but I prefer plot to go with it. If you think any of these lend themselves to porn, lemme have it! Really, go wild! I'm pretty easy to please! Also, I am super into the idea of crossovers between any of the songs I'm requesting - I think some of them could go together pretty interestingly, so if there's an idea that strikes you along those lines please have at.

It you are a podficer or a podfic team - I'm super excited! I think writing a story you know is destined for an aural medium is a cool challenge, and I know the recording of a podfic can be pretty challenging itself, so major props for offering! In this case, since the canon is also aural I think it is an especially interesting pairing! I am a big fan of podcasted/podficed short fiction, but I don't know if I can give any specific likes/dislikes /o\

If you are an artist - I actually really enjoy pieces that have more abstract or symbolic elements to them, so if you want to play with themes and atmosphere rather than create something strictly representational from any of the songs I have requested, please feel free! I don't know if that makes things easier or not, but I appreciate you putting your talents to use for me, in whatever medium!

Exchange generalities

Hello Creators!

I thought what with the way exchanges have been going lately, with the autoapp providing signup details and such, and the fact that I don't always have time these days to write detailed letters, that it would be a good idea to create a letter that discusses some of the general things I enjoy in exchange fanworks. So this is that - it will probably get revised over time. It might not always be perfectly applicable to every exchange, but hopefully it will still be helpful, and I'll revise as I think of useful stuff.

Starting with what's been my letter boilerplate more or less, for a while:

Generally speaking, I like fanworks that tell me a little bit more about the characters or the world they live in. I am a historian and an anthropology person, so I love to understand how things came to be - I like to ask questions. Sometimes canon gives you little crumbs to follow and you can play connect the dots and fill in the missing picture. Sometimes it doesn't, and it can be fun to take what is known about the canon world and invent whole cloth an explanation that fits those rules. Even canons that are very tight often leave questions hanging about their details, like 'hang on, who is making all these magical weapons' or 'who exactly is paying for this millennia old conflict?' I'm happy to have an exploration of a question that doesn't have a clear resolution.

For ships, I'm really interested in the dynamics of relationships - what people are bringing to the table, what do they want to get, what do they want to give, and what happens where the needs and desires of two individuals meet. Do they compliment or conflict? Do they build up or tear down? How do they resolve? I think there are lots of ways of getting at these questions as well, from throwing them into wacky hijinks to see how they execute (or not) a particular caper, to throwing them in bed and seeing what they want when they're there. So, I'm not necessarily looking for any kind of introspection in a story, I just want to know a little more about what makes these people work (or not) as a unit. I know there are some really talented artists out there, as well as writers, and I'm interested to see how these can be conveyed visually as well as textually.

I like stories with plot - with adventure, intrigue, and wacky hijinks/crack. I also like stories that are more focused on character exploration – I don't need action if I have interesting introspection. I like both insider and outsider PoV stuff, and I feel like it is perfectly legit to write a story about a character that isn't from their perspective. I enjoy stories that are very emotionally intense, whether that means they are spilling over with ~feels~ or dark and unrelenting in tone – I enjoy horror, especially psychological horror, but also feel-good fluff and total cracky silliness. I am into both Crueltide and Yuleporn, so if those are your jam, please have at! I'm also open to other sub-challenges, if my requests fit the bill and you're inspired :) I am up for IF and other format shenanigans as well, including poetry.

I like porn, but I do not require it. If you have a preference for or against in whatever you wind up writing, knock yourself out, I will appreciate it. If you include porn, I prefer it to be somehow relevant to the story – either it develops character relationships, or is vital to some zany caper or what have you. I’m not a big fan of pwp, though I think porn can certainly *be* the main action, so to speak, as long as it is showing me something new about characters or their relationship. I'm really hard to squick, so don't be afraid to show me your kinks! More than anything, when it comes (heh) to porn I want to be able to believe that the sex I'm reading is in character for whoever I'm reading about – not necessarily that it is something they want, but that the reactions I'm reading are true to whoever is having them, if that makes any sense. Basically, this is me.

Trick or treat?

Hello! This is my first time signing up for Trick or Treat, and it was a bit of a rush at the end, as it has been a mad week, so I didn't get much in the sign up. The first bit f this is a quickly revised remix of a few letters from other exchanges, so hopefully it is coherent. It is not finished but hopefully will be by the time assignments go out or shortly afterwards!

For any of the ship requests, I'm really interested in the dynamics of relationships - what people are bringing to the table, what do they want to get, what do they want to give, and what happens where the needs and desires of two individuals meet. Do they compliment or conflict? Do they build up or tear down? How do they resolve? I think there are lots of ways of getting at these questions as well, from throwing them into wacky hijinks to see how they execute (or not) a particular caper, to throwing them in bed and seeing what they want when they're there. As for kinks, I like power dynamics, negotiation, all levels of consent (enthusiastic consent, ambiguous consent, dubcon, noncon), all kinds of sex (vaginal, anal, oral, intercrural, frottage, clothed, semiclothed, public, whatever!) knifeplay, breathplay, bdsm, blood, loyalty, kissing...a million other things I'm probably not thinking of. Basically, this is me.

As far as art goes, I should also note that I am interested in a variety of body shapes/sizes/colours, and I am also interested in symbolic representation and stylized art as well as more representational perspectives, as long as the requested characters are in some way identifiable in the piece.

Sometimes it doesn't, and it can be fun to take what is known about the canon world and invent whole cloth an explanation that fits those rules. Even canons that are very tight often leave questions hanging about their details, like 'hang on, who is making all these magical weapons' or 'who exactly is paying for this millenia old conflict?' I am happy to have original characters, or for you to use named canon characters (if there's anyone I do not want, I'll say it in the specific fandom, but I'm pretty easy going). I'm happy to have an exploration of a question that doesn't have a clear resolution, and I'm open to whatever formats you want to use that is appropriate to the canon - epistolary, data logs, academic debates, journal articles, diaries, epic poems, whatever - go nuts! I will also appreciate a regular prose story.

I just wanted to give some general likes/dislikes beyond what I put in the specific sections of my signup (which are repeated below). This is pretty much the same as my last year's letter, though!

I'm really interested in the dynamics of relationships - what people are bringing to the table, what do they want to get, what do they want to give, and what happens where the needs and desires of two individuals meet. Do they compliment or conflict? Do they build up or tear down? How do they resolve? I think there are lots of ways of getting at these questions as well, from throwing them into wacky hijinks to see how they execute (or not) a particular caper, to throwing them in bed and seeing what they want when they're there. So, I'm not necessarily looking for any kind of introspection in a story, I just want to know a little more about what makes these people work (or not) as a unit. I know there are some really talented artists out there, as well as writers, and I'm interested to see how these can be conveyed visually as well as textually.

I am definitely up for explicit stories/art for any of the requested "/" pairings! I don't have a list of specific squicks - I'm pretty open to stuff, and the delivery is really what's important. So to speak. As for kinks, I like power dynamics, negotiation, all levels of consent (enthusiastic consent, ambiguous consent, dubcon, noncon), all kinds of sex (vaginal, anal, oral, intercrural, frottage, clothed, semiclothed, public, whatever!) knifeplay, breathplay, bdsm, blood, loyalty, kissing...a million other things I'm probably not thinking of. Basically, this is me.

As far as art goes, I should also note that I am interested in a variety of body shapes/sizes/colours, and I am also interested in symbolic representation and stylized art as well as more representational perspectives, as long as the requested characters are in some way identifiable in the piece.

Thanks, first of all, for writing! That is really the most important thing, and I will be delighted with whatever I wind up getting.

Generally speaking, I like stories that tell me a little bit more about the characters or the world they live in. I like stories with plot - with adventure, intrigue, and wacky hijinks/crack. I also like stories that are more focused on character exploration – I don't need action if I have interesting introspection. I like both insider and outsider PoV stuff, and I feel like it is perfectly legit to write a story about a character that isn't from their perspective. I enjoy stories that are very emotionally intense, whether that means they are spilling over with ~feels~ or dark and unrelenting in tone – I enjoy horror, especially psychological horror, but also feel-good fluff and total cracky silliness. I am into both Crueltide and Yuleporn, so if those are your jam, please have at! I'm also open to other sub-challenges, if my requests fit the bill and you're inspired :) I am up for IF and other format shenanigans, including poetry, as well

Thank you very much for writing something for me. I want to say first of all that if you have a strong idea about what you want to write, please feel free to run with it! I have tried to give some general ideas of things that I think might be cool for the stories, but for the most part I'm pretty open to interpretations. I'm okay with any rating, I don't have any real squicks or triggers. I like things that are scary and creepy and straight up horrific, but I also like things that a cute or funny or fluffy (though I'm not sure if any of the songs I picked really lean that way). I don't need happy endings, but I do enjoy them. If you have different ideas though, lemme have 'em! I like character introspection, I like world building, I like plot. I like porn, but I prefer plot to go with it. I don't know if any of these really lend themselves to porn, but if you think differently, lemme have it! Really, go wild! I'm pretty easy to please! Also, I am super into the idea of crossovers between any of the songs I'm requesting - I think some of them could go together pretty interestingly, so if there's an idea that strikes you along those lines please have at.

I am really excited for this fest, possibly more than is rational. I have a longstanding love of folk music and other forms of ballads and song-stories, and I like thinking about what we don't know as much as what we do. The canons we have to work with here are mostly pretty loose, and I'm excited to see where people go with them. I recognize that this is a lot closer to original fic than most fandom-fests, and I appreciate that it can be harder to make things up whole cloth, so really, thank you! Write what you want, what inspires you, and hopefully what is below has some good ideas if you're feeling lost!

It you are a podficer or a podfic team - I'm super excited, as I've never received a podfic for an exchange before! I think writing a story you know is destined for an aural medium is a cool challenge, and I know the recording of a podfic can be pretty challenging itself, so major props for offering! In this case, since the canon is also aural I think it is an especially interesting pairing! I am a big fan of podcasted/podficed short fiction, but I don't know if I can give any specific likes/dislikes /o\

If you are an artist - I actually really enjoy pieces that have more abstract or symbolic elements to them, so if you want to play with themes and atmosphere rather than create something strictly representational from any of the songs I have requested, please feel free! I don't know if that makes things easier or not, but I appreciate you putting your talents to use for me, in whatever medium!

Chocobox, much belated

I went to work on my letter for Jukebox and realized that I'd never done a chocolate box follow up this year!

Once again I was utterly spoiled, with 4 gifts this year! I don't know what I have done to deserve this but I have 0 complaints, only love for all my excellent authors! I got two original fics, a SW Rebels Kanera and an St:AOS Nero/Ayel. My partner loyalty kink may be showing here hmmmm! They are all super great and people should read them!

Chocolate Box!!!

I was so spoiled this go around. I got SIX (6!!!!)gifts and they were all fantastic. I wrote three, two of which were for Nary (one shared with longpig), who was my official recip, and one for a stranger who requested a couple of OW prompts I'd submitted :x This was partly, I admit, a decoy story, but I am really proud of how it turned out and also that it really resonated with the recip :3

Three of my gifts were new She-ra, one was an Original Work, one was New Trek, and he last was a Diablotin/Adventure World crossover :V

So, yes, this was the year/exchange where Nary, Longpig, and I finally decided to see what happened if we nominated Diablotin. And I matched on her. And she wrote me and Longpig each a treat to make sure that it would be represented in the exchange :x So in the end there were four! which meant that they really dind't get much feedback outside of our little circle, so it was a low-feedback exchange. But the comments I did get were lovely and did I mention - 6 awesome gifts!?!

Basically what I am here for is things that aren't as straightforwards as they seem on the surface. I am really into complicated power dynamics, especially in sexual relationships. Some of these suggest interesting power dynamics because of the positions of the characters involved, but feel free to play around with it! I'm interesting in how social and cultural differences play into these dynamics as well, so free free to play around with that in terms of the fantasy races, and certainly don't feel bound by fantasy stereotypes! The possible exception to this is the 'Lover in Mourning/Lover Who's Been Dead for A Year and a Day' pairing, where I would definitely be interested in the 'Unquiet Grave'/'Cold blows the wind' take on that, where the dead lover warns the other what will happen if they kiss them (nothing good).

I like porn, but I do not require it. If you have a preference for or against in whatever you wind up writing, knock yourself out, I will appreciate it. If you include porn, I prefer it to be somehow relevant to the story – either it develops character relationships, or is vital to some zany caper or what have you. I’m not a big fan of pwp, though I think porn can certainly *be* the main action, so to speak, as long as it is showing me something new about characters or their relationship. I'm really hard to squick, so don't be afraid to show me your kinks! More than anything, when it comes (heh) to porn I want to be able to believe that the sex I'm reading is in character for whoever I'm reading about – not necessarily that it is something they want, but that the reactions I'm reading are true to whoever is having them, if that makes any sense.

If you are looking to find out more about me, I have a somewhat chaotic tumblr, and a neglected rambling personal journal. I am also Measured_Words on AO3 :) I used o hang out in Yulechat more when it was on IRC and will probably try to be around on the discord, but no promises. Dear Jukebox Operator:

Thank you very much for writing something for me. I want to say first of all that if you have a strong idea about what you want to write, please feel free to run with it! I have tried to give some general ideas of things that I think might be cool for the stories, but for the most part I'm pretty open to interpretations. I'm okay with any rating, I don't have any real squicks or triggers. I like things that are scary and creepy and straight up horrific, but I also like things that a cute or funny or fluffy (though I'm not sure if any of the songs I picked really lean that way). I don't need happy endings, but I do enjoy them. If you have different ideas though, lemme have 'em! I like character introspection, I like world building, I like plot. I like porn, but I prefer plot to go with it. I don't know if any of these really lend themselves to porn, but if you think differently, lemme have it! Really, go wild! I'm pretty easy to please! Also, I am super into the idea of crossovers between any of the songs I'm requesting - I think some of them could go together pretty interestingly, so if there's an idea that strikes you along those lines please have at.

I am really excited for this fest, possibly more than is rational. I have a longstanding love of folk music and other forms of ballads and song-stories, and I like thinking about what we don't know as much as what we do. The canons we have to work with here are mostly pretty loose, and I'm excited to see where people go with them. I recognize that this is a lot closer to original fic than most fandom-fests, and I appreciate that it can be harder to make things up whole cloth, so really, thank you! Write what you want, what inspires you, and hopefully what is below has some good ideas if you're feeling lost!

It you are a podficer or a podfic team - I'm super excited, as I've never received a podfic for an exchange before! I think writing a story you know is destined for an aural medium is a cool challenge, and I know the recording of a podfic can be pretty challenging itself, so major props for offering! In this case, since the canon is also aural I think it is an especially interesting pairing! I am a big fan of podcasted/podficed short fiction, but I don't know if I can give any specific likes/dislikes /o\

If you are an artist - I actually really enjoy pieces that have more abstract or symbolic elements to them, so if you want to play with themes and atmosphere rather than create something strictly representational from any of the songs I have requested, please feel free! I don't know if that makes things easier or not, but I appreciate you putting your talents to use for me, in whatever medium!

Chocolate Box 2018 wrap-up!

I dialed things back a little bit this year, so I only managed to write my assignment, and no treats or pinch hits. I haven't read around as much in the archive as I would like yet, but it's just been a really busy time for me with a lot of other stuff going on!

I received two lovely gifts as well, which were both great :3

The assigned gift was for The Anthropomorphization Death/A Half Orc In Search of an Honourable Death, and I think the author really captured the dynamic really well (no share link):

The treat (tagged as such), was for Rebels - Kanan asking Ahsoka for help training Ezra. I thought it got them both down well, and that it could really be a missing scene. It's a shame we didn't get to see them engage too much on the show about their pasts:
