More of the same - Diablotin, Kalman, Father of the Bride

Father of the Bride

He knew no one was watching him as they came down the isle. Ysana had argued for a small wedding - everyone there was important to her and Halden. If she was radiant (and she was), it wasn’t the expensive dress, or make-up, or artfully arranged hair, but the joy that filled her and pulled her just a little too quickly toward the enraptured young man towering over the priest some few feet away.

Kalman sat, linking hands with Eglorine and remembering their own wedding. When it came time to stand and give his daughter away, he had no regrets

Again! Again again! Generations - Diablotin 1 - (Old) Boden and Kalman

Generations

“Void, Boden! Why do you tell me these things?”

His friend laughed, clapping him on the back as hard as ever.

“The look on your face just gets better with age.”

Kalman shook his head and sighed. “He’s your grandson too, you know.”

“Sure, but he’s named after you.”

“Kids today…”

“Eglorine said you were just the same.”

“Hardly! I only had one!”

“Mm-hmmm… And how old was she?”

Clearly, his protestations of innocents were getting him nowhere. He met Boden’s besmused grin with a half-hearted glare. “I need a drink.”

The grin broadened. “Water for the Lord Chancellor please!”

Last of the night - Charitible Economy - Diablotin 2 - Obern Pell

Charitable Economy

What Brother Phineas didn’t know couldn’t hurt him, Obern figured. The florist down on Water Street was having a sale, and if they saved some on this week’s arrangements, why shouldn’t they replace some of the old blankets they kept around to warm the pews on colder days?

And if they were going to be replaced, why not give the old ones away to a family in need?

So, screw the flowers. And maybe they didn’t need the higher quality candles for the votives either… The Gods, he reasoned, could surely handle a few sacrifices to help the less fortunate.
