With This Kiss the Riot Starts (1651 words) by Snow
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Hadestown (Musical)
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Hades/Orpheus (Hadestown)
Characters: Hades (Hadestown), Orpheus (Hadestown)
Additional Tags: Dubious Consent, Deal with a Devil, Bargaining, Explicit Sexual Content
Summary:
Orpheus strikes a bargain with Hades. Eurydice back in exchange for a....song.
--This was my 'main' gift - just exactly the sort of exchange I was hoping to get, and with some very nice dubcon. I should have said in my comment, but this is exactly the kind of dubcon I love, where there is explicit consent to something someone really doesn't want to do, but they are going through with it for other more complicated reasons :3 I should go back and add that to my comment :3

You Always Knew Me in Winter (238 words) by Snow
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Hadestown (Musical)
Rating: Mature
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Hades/Persephone (Hadestown)
Characters: Hades (Hadestown), Persephone (Hadestown)
Summary:
Persephone and Hades talk about Orpheus, and his failure.
--A little snippet of an exchange between Hades and Persephone! I love their relationship in Hadestown, because Persephone comes off as so much older and wiser, and this does a really good job with that. they know each other so well, and despite their problems, there is a very physical connection between them still.

Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Hadestown (Musical)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Hermes (Hadestown), Orpheus (Hadestown)
Additional Tags: Drabble, Coda, Lost Love, Found something else
Summary:
Hermes and Orpheus, after the end.
--Finally a drabble! \o/ You probably all know how much I love drabbles, and it is always a joy to receive one. And this one is just so great - it layers a lot into those 100 words, and the ending is perfect. And also, I love Hermes a lot, so this was just the perfect treat to round everything out :3 ETA: I had a strong suspicion who it was by and am pleased it was correct ^-^

This year, I wrote 5 fics. One main assignment, two pinch hits (one an emergency ph), one treat that I thought was a PH and then wasn't and then I finished it anyway, and one drabble :3 As always, i wish I'd written more! This is going to be in order that they were posted:
There's No Blood in Bone (3372 words) by Measured_Words
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Dungeons & Dragons (Roleplaying Game)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Original D&D Character(s)
Additional Tags: Elves, Humans, Dragons, No dungeons though - sorry, Grief/Mourning, POV Second Person, Fantasy, Magic
Summary:
You've been in Merit for a very long time, going through the motions of one life or another. You're still not ready for it to be upended, and certainly not to face the things you can't handle, and that you can't leave behind.
--I was pretty excited by this letter - my recip said they weren't sure what to expect, and threw out some possible prompts, one of which was along the lines of 'what happens when the city is build on an ancient dragon burial ground?' I had been mulling over what to do for a story, and then one night I couldn't sleep and I wrote the first 500 words or so of this. Then I slept and gave it some more thought - second person is really not everyone's cup of tea. I decided on keeping it for a number of reasons: a - I think it increases the emotional intimacy. b - it gives the reader a chance to read what they want into the character and their relationships in some ways. I tried to give minimal descriptions of the narrator for that reason as well. I think it worked out well, and I think it is probably my most successful fic this yuletide, given its tiny fandom and weird PoV ;)

The Nascence of the Great Wizard Eibon (1931 words) by Measured_Words
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Hyperborean Cycle - Clark Ashton Smith
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Eibon (Hyperborean Cycle), Tsathoggua
Additional Tags: Magic, Murder, Gods, Wizards, Servants, POV First Person, Autobiography
Summary:
How I, the greatest of Hyperborean wizards, came to my power and entered into a pact with that ineffable elder god from beyond the stars, Zhothaqquah.
--This was a pinch hit, and I didn't snatch it up right away because it has been a while since I'd read any CAS. But hey - this was a perfect excuse! So I mainlined all the Hyperborea stories, and gave it some thought. My recip had indicated that they were a fan of the style and language, and I did my best to work with that, using some obscure word lists and spending a lot of time with my thesaurus and thinking about language flow. It was very fun to write! I used Smith's The Coming of the White Worm as the main inspiration for the voice, since it is supposed to come from the Book of Eibon as well. Also, on a lark (and Nary's urging), I checked the Flesch-Kinkaid reading level on this one - it is grade 14.7 ;p I think Smith would approve!

Car Chase (3492 words) by Measured_Words
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Albert "Bert" Johnson, Cecil "Cec" Yates, Dorothy "Dot" Williams, Tobias Butler, Phryne Fisher, Jack Robinson
Additional Tags: Case Fic, Cars, Theft, Friendship, Yuletide Treat
Summary:
Miss Fisher has asked Bert and Cec to run an errand involving her 1928 Hispano-Suiza. Nothing could possibly go wrong.
--This is the one that wasn't really a pinch hit, but I started writing it thinking it would be. I'm glad in the end, because it focuses on Bert and Cec a lot, though also on Dot and has Miss Fisher in an important is small role, and they weren't actually nominated. I'd have had to rework if it were more of an official fill, I think. But the recip said they loved all the main cast, so! And I haven't written a good case fic in a while. I feel like this elided a lot more than I would have liked, but one of my betas said it read like the back end of an episode, and I'm quite happy with that! Anyway, no one who knows my love of minor characters should be in the lest bit surprised to find my name on this ;p

Beauty and the Beast (100 words) by Precisely_Measured_Words
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Vampire: The Masquerade
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Original Female Character/Original Female Character
Characters: Original Female Character(s)
Additional Tags: Drabble, Loss of Humanity, Yuletide Madness Drabble Invitational
Summary:
They had agreed, she'd thought, that they would succeed at any cost.
--The only drabble I managed this year... But I'm very happy with it! I think it does exactly what I wanted it to accomplish, at least. Some of my favourite characters when playing Old Vampire were those who wound up making so many little compromises on things that they didn't really realize how much they were losing in the process. It was one of my favourite themes of the game, and it was a cool challenge to express it so succinctly.

So Many Miles (1313 words) by Measured_Words
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Phryne Fisher/Jack Robinson
Characters: Phryne Fisher, Jack Robinson
Additional Tags: Reunions, Reunion Sex, Oral Sex, Vaginal Sex, Post-Season/Series 03, Yuleporn
Summary:
Jack finally catches up to Phryne in England.
--And the emergency pinch hit! This came out a few hours before the deadline. I wasn't sure I could manage it so the mods found some other people to fill it as well... and then I wrote like the wind! I'm honestly not sure I could have come up with this outside of the deadline pressure, but I'm pretty happy with it! There are some things I would have liked to have more time to research in to (I'm sure the name of the England house is given in the last episode, but I didn't have time to find it), but even so I think it works well. One of the things the recip said in their letter is that they didn't like the idea of jack being possessive and jealous - and quite honestly, I don't know know that I can see them working out as a couple any other way than if Jack can come to terms with what it means to love Phryne for her sexy, flirtatious, lusty self. So, voila!
And that was my yuletide..... other than all the reading I've done in both collections! I wish I had more time as I'd have loved to make a proper recs post before reveals, but that doesn't seem to have happened :/ Maybe after? There are just so many great stories to chose from, though! I guess we'd better all get reading...
