Top Ten list
Feb. 25th, 2012 04:27 pmI am stealing this from Bessermerprocess over on dreamwidth. It is a top ten by hits list, and the idea is that you can go back and compare the hits and such in later years. I meant to do it last year bu didn't but I can start now, so here goes!
1. Authority. (2010 - 709 hits). I think the fact that this is in the ASOIAF fandom is pretty much sufficient to exaplain its high hitcount. Written as a Yuletide treat in 2010. Bafflingly it is only one of 4 Jamie/Loras fics in the archive. I am pretty happy with it, although I have stories that I think are more deserving of the #1 spot!
2. The Sister's Bargain. (2009 - 517 hits). Another yuletide fic for the Decemberists Hazards of Love album. I think this one gets a nudge from being linked ona TV Tropes discussion page @_@ I am still really happy with it though, and though I don't think it will ever knock Authority out of its place I wouldn't be sad to see it in the #1 ^-^
3. The Doom of the Hippos (2010 - 357 hits). Again a yuletide story! Are we sensing a theme here? :V This one gets its hits by being cracky #yuletide rpf. Who can resist cracky #yuletide rpf? :D It is fun, but certainly not my best story (though I am as pleased as punch at the love its gotten!) I think it suffers a little from some editing I did after it was posted on account of not having read the rules for writing such things... hem. Anyway, that's #3 :3
4. Unforgettable (2010 - 318 hits). Annnnnnd more Yulefic. Loooooong yulefic, at that, for Amrican Gods, featuring a female OC and Hermes doing Stuff in the Background during the course of the book that only sort of vaguely touches on the actual novel's plot. It is ridiculously Canadian (because I wanted to try and capture the novel's sense of place/places), and contains lots of other little references. I am quite pleased to see it place in the top ten and hope it continues to get love and attention :)
5. Left Hanging (2011 - 282 hits). STOP THE PRESSES THIS ISN'T YULEFIC :V It is kinky porn... or well I guess there isn't any actual sex, but it sure is kinky! It is for a 'fandom' that is basically a homebrewed setting for a D&D game. 282 hits. What's the secret here? Look at the tags.... master/slave, piercings, attempted murder, suspension, bdsm, mistress, flogging, genital torture, implied gangbang, tentacles. That's right - this story is here because of the pervs <3
6. Indiana Jones and the Profile of Soil (2009 - 236 hits). Back to the yulefics! This is a drabble, and considering how many drabbles I write I'm pleased to see a few of them make the list :) Also a big fandom, also apeals to archaeologists.
7. What Is Dead... (2011 - 211 hits). An ASOIAF drabble! Yes that pretty much explains just what you need to know to see why this is on the list :D Theon Greyjoy introspection.
8. The New Game (2009 - 200 hits). Martha Wells, Fall of Ile-Rien post-canon story focusing on Nicholas. This is the first Yulefic I ever wrote. I am still very pleased with it, and though I wish it got a little more love, I will embrace the fact that it has more than twice the hits of any other story in the fandom on AO3. You know, all three of the other stories :p Tiny fandom is tiny <3 I'm glad this is in the top ten, but I wonder how long it will stay there :3
9. A Document in Madness (2011 - 201 hits) - Okay so this *was* tied with #8 when I started the list and has apparenlty gone up a hit since I started writing it :p I'm keeping it where it was on account of I'm lazy. This is one of this year's Yuletide offerings, a Hamlet/Cthulhu mashup focusing on Laertes. I'm super happy with how this one turned out and expect it will continue to slowly rise up the list :)
10. Must Have Been The Rum (2010 - 197 hits). Historical pirate femslash. Putting those degrees to good use, I am :V Anne Bonny/Mary Read drunk sex. It is what it is folk - I guess it scratches some people's itches ^-^
So, a few stories from this year have made it in - mostly Yuletide stories, and stories from the few larger fandoms I've poked around in. I think it will be more interesting if I remember to come back and do it next year :)
