ETA: I am goign to be home visiting family for Chruistmas, from the 23rd to the 31st. I wasn't thinking this would be a problem, but my dad just moved and when I last talked to him they didn't even have a *phone* at the new place, let alone the internets! I will try to get on and read as soon as I can, but it may take me a day or two (hopefully no more!) to read and comment. But I promise I still love you :D
Thanks, first of all, for writing! I am scamming most of this from my last year’s letter (including this line!), so hopefully it will retain some amount of coherency.
So first of all.... I like stories with plot - with adventure, intrigue, character exploration and development. I also like stories that are more focused on character exploration, however – I don`t need action if I have interesting introspection. That said, introspection does not necessarily equate with excessive angsting.
I like porn, but I do not require it. If you have a preference for or against in whatever you wind up writing, knock yourself out, I will likely appreciate it. I prefer it to be somehow relevant to the story – either it develops character relationships, or is vital to some zany caper or what have you. I’m not a big fan of pwp or sex thrown into a story randomly. Porn can certainly *be* the main action, so to speak, but I like it better if it is more than just some random bodies pressing up against each other in interesting ways. I also don't like major deviations from cannon - that is, I don't like people to act out of character, and I'm generally not a huge fan of AU's unless they're very clever. Funny is good, but not required.
On to the specifics! Please note that these are in no particular order :D
1. The Littlest Hobo (Hobo)
This is a show of my childhood, and a Canadian classic! I like to explain it to people as a cross between Lassie and The Fugitive. There is a hobo German Shepherd dog, who wanders from town to town helping people out of various scrapes, and then moves along to the next town, never settling down.
What do I want in a fic for this? Wacky crossovers! Well, not *too* wacky, perhaps, but anything roughly contemporary in setting, somewhere in the US and Canada… A-team would be hilarious, or something else ridiculously Canadian like Due South or Once a Thief, or some kind of crime/mystery/murder show like NCIS or CSI, or creepy and cracktastic like Hobo helps people defeat the local Order of Dagon, or hell, I dunno whatever you can think of where a clever dog could lead to wacky hijinks :D Don't feel liek you need to write something silly though - serious hobo-related case fic would be equally awesome! I’m pretty open, and if you’re worried I won’t know a particular show or setting, don’t fret because I will look it up, and I am bound to love it regardless. As long as the dog gets a prominent role and keeps on moving down the road at the end of the story, I’ll be pleased as punch. If you have no crossover inspiration but just want to write Hobo’s further adventures helpin’ out random peeps, I am totally down with that too! Because! The Littlest Hobo :D Love! And this probably goes without saying…. But please, no dog porn/besitality ;_;
2. The Cloud Roads - Martha Wells (Moon and Liheas)
So… first off! If you haven’t read The Cloud Roads but think you would like to, this request is very spoilery! Very! It involves the thing that caught me the most by surprise in the book, and I count myself a very astute reader so, if you don’t like spoilers, move along to the next fandom in the list :) It might also be a little trigger, and if so I apologize! But on to the request. If you offered these characters on purpose, you probably can already guess what I’m after. If you bravely offered ‘any’ and got stuck with me and are now racking your brain wondering what you were thinking… my apologies! But don’t worry, I’m easy to please!
So, I requested this because I want to read about that night that Moon went to the Fell, and was seduced by a mesmerizingly beautiful man who told him that he loved him, who Moon then killed in his sleep. I have a thing for dub-con stories – people being put in positions where they don’t feel like they can say no. I’d love to know what was going on in either of their heads at the time! Porn would be totally okay, but I see porn more as an extension of character and another way of seeing what people are like, and if you don’t want or need to go there to give me interesting new insights or things to consider, that’s fine. If you don’t want to approach the characters directly (since they only ever met canonically the once), feel free to give it some distance, have Moon discuss it more with Jade or someone else that he trusts (ish… I mean this is Moon, trust is relative!), give me some insight from one of the other Fell characters, or anything at all, really! I’m stunningly easy to please – I just want a little bit more about what happened. Don’t worry about squicking me, don’t worry about creeping me out, don’t worry about triggering me for anything. If you can do that, I’m likely to just thank you for it (the Fell have great potential to be creepy, I think)!
3. The Masqueraders – Georgette Heyer (Robin)
I would like to read Robin’s Big Queer Jacobite Adventure. I personally ship Robin/Charles Stewart like there is no tomorrow, and think there are all kinds of stories to be told in that vein. I mean, who do you think got the prince off to Skye in drag, really? The most essential part of this request is that I would like pre-canon Robin-centric fic. I see him as totally bi, personally, but if you don’t that’s cool! Robin-centric does not equate to Robin PoV, so feel free to use any characters who might be around at the time to tell this story – Prue, John, and even the Old Gentleman. Does Robin stick only to his father’s plans? Does he have his own thing going on? We know he gets very emotionally tied up in this cause and that he does spend some time with the prince, and is very hurt/upset at the beginning of the novel by how things went down. I want to know why!
I would love porn for this, but if that is not your thing, then I will be happy with whatever madcap adventure you are willing to toss my way :) If madcap adventure sounds intimidating, I would be just as happy with some introspective character exploration. If you are down for porn (and slash and/or het could work well in this), I’ll just reiterate what I said in my general notes that I see sex as a way of characterizing people. Story relevant sexings such as seductions necessary to further devious plans would be especially epic ^-^
4. English and Scottish Popular Ballads – Francis James Child (Lamkin)
I would love more details about this song. The version I’m most familiar with is the Steeleye Span one, but if you know other versions, I’m eager to hear them (literally… feel free to link and rec songs in your notes if you like ^-^)! Why go to such extreme violent ends? Why was the lady of the house taken in? Why was the nurse so sympathetic as to assist? This is a violent creepy, haunting song, and those are the things I love about it. I would love to see the story retold (in any setting) or expanded upon in some way!
If you are not inspired to write for Lamkin, but have an SUPER AWESOME IDEA for some other ballad fic.... gimme :D I don' care even if it is a song I'm not super familiar with - just leave me a link or a rec so I can hunt it down! I love ballad fics, and yuletide usually really comes through for me in this fandom even when I *don`t* request it ^-^ Give to me your ballad fics, and lo, they shall be loved :D
