I feel like I have not had a chance to be properly excited about Yuletide this year - I'm travelling, visiting a house full of toddlers where I don't have a room of my own to hide in, so I haven't had as much time to read around, and had to furtively read all (!!! So many!) my gifts furtively while everyone else was distracted. And they I got horribly ill, because toddlers. But I am feeling better now (though the toddlers are sick)! And I got So many!!! delightful stories that I need to share them :D And then I can get on with trying to do some other reading :)

I got main collection fics in two fandoms - Three fics for The Witch's Son - auroaronkitten and one for My Imaginary Well Dressed Toddler Daughter:

All of the Witch's Son ones had cool worldbuilding and they all worked in different elements of the image to do so. They were all very different, too!

The Wings Of Freedom (1345 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: The Witch's Son - auroaronkitten
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Summary: He cannot be like her as he is - but it is within his power to change.
--
In this one, The Witch's Son follows through a ritual to beciome a girl, so that he can be a proper witch like his mother. The motivations are neat, and there are interesting little details slipped in about gender and magic! I think this is one of the darker takes on the picture as well, which I do of course appreciate!

The Witch Bottle (2065 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: The Witch's Son - auroaronkitten
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: The Witch's Son, The Cat (The Witch's Son), The Raven (The Witch's Son), The Bird (The Witch's Son)
Additional Tags: Mother-Son Relationship, Witches, Witchcraft, Curses, Talking Animals, Folklore
Summary: When Aven woke up on an otherwise unremarkable autumn morning, his mother was gone. This in itself was not noteworthy - she could have been out before dawn gathering herbs with the moonlight-kissed dew still on them, or gone into the village with a hunch that young Mrs. Norton's baby was on its way soon, or sitting by her beehive to tell the swarm the latest news and hear what they had learned in their travels. What was unusual was that she had apparently left without her boots, hat, or broom. In fact it was more than unusual - it was unheard of.
--
This one is more of a coming of age story - Aven, the Witch's Son - has to make a witch bottle to help someone who was accidentally transformed into a bird all on his own, without his mother's help :) It is very sweet, and again I liked a lot of the details used from the picture that the author worked in!

The Old Willow Tree (6185 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: The Witch's Son - auroaronkitten
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Additional Tags: Women Being Awesome
Summary: When the Witch's Son was twelve years old, the village hung his mother from the Old Willow Tree.

"Best get on with this! You have farms to sew, cows to milk," his mother reminded the town folk. She walked to the Old Willow Tree in the center of town, leading the silent crowd. "Will this do for you?" she asked the gathered people.

Their neighbors faltered. His mother was always unexpected.

This one also has some dark elements, as you can tell from the summary! But the focus is more on what happens afterwards. The author spun a really cool story from the picture, developped the son and a cool original character as well, and I just really enojyed how everything turned out! It also had some cool worldbuilding stuff and a lot of details in the background of stuff that isn't quite spelled out that was neat :)
