Yuletide reveals!

Yuletide has been weird for me this year, as I mentioned before. I haven't read a fraction of what I'd like to read, and it feels strange to only be settling down to do so after reveals. Ahh well! I do plan to read around a lot, but I admit I may be beelining for some authors I know I love!
In any case, I managed four stories this year - two for the main collection, and two drabbles. All of them are in small or YT-only fandoms, so I have been trying to keep my expectations in terms of comments, kudos and hits low. They seem fairly well received by their recipients, and that's what counts!

This was my main assignment. I actually matched on The Great God Pan and another of my recip's fandoms, and of her requests the only one I didn't know was The Werewolf of Paris. I liked all her prompts and was intrigued by the book and figured I would check it out - since my library had it, I did! She also suggested a crossover, and while I was reading the book I kept this in mind. There are some themes between the two that compliment each other nicely, and the protagonists have very different perspectives that was also interesting to work with. I wound up creating some original characters as well, for various reasons and with various levels of success (I think). For one, this was a sort of generational story, so I needed a new generation! For two, both of my protagonists were pretty old by the time this is set (around 1896, though it isn't stated directly in the story I don't think) - Clark is probably in his 50's at least, while Aymar is more like 70 something @_@ - and I needed someone younger to manage some of the action, so to speak. Anyway, I am quite pleased at how they blend and with the story overall, though of course it did get pretty long on me, and is the longest fic I've ever written for yuletide! It is a horror fandom, and I waffled between using allllll the the warnings and choosing not to warn for anything, knowing that either way it would keep people away. In the end I went with the second option, so if you read it, be prepared! If you don't read it, I promise I won't feel butthurt ;)

The Devil's Right Hand (5260 words) by Measured_Words
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Grendel (comics)
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: Major Character Death
Relationships: Hunter Rose/Larry Stohler
Characters: Larry Stohler, Hunter Rose
Additional Tags: BDSM, Bondage, Character Study, References to Suicide, Caning, Sadism, Smoking, Canonical Character Death, Hand Jobs
Summary: One of the weak points in Christine Powell Spar's work on Hunter Rose and his dual life as a member of the literary elite and a ruthless crime lord is the lack of consideration she gives to Larry Stohler.

This is a treat I write for a friend, who has been pimping the Grendel comics at me (okay, at anyone who would sit still for half a minute ;) for a while now. It was one of her perennial yuletide requests, and I figured that it did look like a story I would enjoy, so I would give it a shot. Not gonna lie, she also suggested that it would crossover well with The Shadow, and I originally planned to try and do just that. However then I got sucked into the characters themselves, and I decided I would focus on her more specific request to look at the relationship dynamics between Hunter and Larry. The only problem ("problem") is that the closer I looked, the only way I could see it happening is with Larry in the dominant role, quite literally. I worried that this would be a hard sell, but I think I managed to show what I was seeing there, at least! I think it works out perfectly for them, and now I want more people to write it for me.

Sisters (100 words) by Measured_Words
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: JourneyQuest
Rating: Not Rated
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Rilk/Wren (JourneyQuest), Karn/Starling (JourneyQuest)
Characters: Wren (JourneyQuest), Rilk (JourneyQuest)
Additional Tags: Drabble, yumadrin, Family, Family Drama, Sisters
Summary: "You probably have sisters – orcs have big families right?"
--
This is a madness drabble I wrote during one of my airport layovers, because I reallllly wanted to participate in the YUMADRIN (Yuletide Madness Drabble Initiative) that someone set up, and it was about the only chance I would have to write any. JourneyQuest is a teensy fandom based on an awesome web series, and I was happy to contribute something for that reason. Also I remembered my recipient's request from last year which, along with what she asked for this time, partly inspired my idea here. We don't actually canonically know that Wren and Starling are sisters, but if they aren't, I'll eat my hat ;p

Blood (100 words) by Measured_Words
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: The Wire
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Avon Barksdale & Stringer Bell
Characters: Stringer Bell, Avon Barksdale
Additional Tags: Friendship, Family, Cooking, yumadrin
Summary: Avon grinned, waving the spoon at his friend. "The kitchen is the heart of a family, String."
--
And another YUMADRIN drabble, where I was poking through the huge list of requests, and sitting in yulechat (still at the airport) and pondering what else to do. So of course kristin says 'write me The Wire!" because she always does! I don't know if I would feel confident writing a full length fic for The Wire, but drabbles I can do! Poignancy is easy for me to dish out in drabble form, and this turned out as a nice little punch in the feels.
